The Dream

A personal project using art and Adobe Flash to explore the illusion of parallax
Hardware / Software:
Wacom Intuos 4
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Flash

SYNOPSIS: The Dream is a personal project to explore the illusion of parallax. Flash was used to create this motion piece utilizing characters from my sketchbook. First, sketched designs and artwork were colored in PSD in various blend modes and converted to either optimized jpegs or regular pngs. These were then imported into the flash .fla file in layers. Achieving the desired effect meant that objects situated as background elements were motion-tweened to move at a slower rate compared to the characters in the foreground. The speed is determined by the start and end positions of a particular object as well as its duration of existence on the animation timeline. Building many of these layers set at sequentially rising speeds creates this illusion of depth via parallax.

While building this, I came across a piece of music that I thought had a great projection of atmospheric depth. I don't know anything about the band, but I liked their sound.
