Welcome!
Thank you for visiting my site! Let me introduce myself. My name is Stuart Kim and I'm currently working as a concept artist & user interface designer for video games. Before venturing into this field, I've held various positions in the graphic and web design industry as a designer, production artist and creative director.
I was born and raised in sunny Los Angeles. My childhood years were spent running around with my neighborhood friends playing tag and hide 'n seek. However, my most memorable times were spent drawing spaceships and monsters with my crayons at the kitchen table. I was fascinated with all things Star Wars and Godzilla. In the '80's it was all about G.I. Joe and Robotech.
After junior high, my family moved to the east coast where I lived and got to experience the four seasons. During my senior year of college I received a job opportunity to work for a D.C. based design firm as an illustrator. While working there I was exposed to graphic design and production work for print based projects. It was an enjoyable and fast-paced environment, but after 3 years I felt a deep yearning to go back to my drawing and painting roots.
In 1999, I moved back to Los Angeles to enroll at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. I entered as a Illustration major with the intention of focusing on Entertainment design. School was a great catalyst for growth and at the same time it was a harsh reality check as I was surrounded by an incredibly gifted and dedicated pool of budding artists. I’ve had the privilege of finding great friends there who continue to inspire and push me to this very day. However due to personal difficulties, I was unable to continue my studies there after 3 terms. With formal art education on hold, I delved back into the design world where I had the opportunity to learn web design.
The year was 2000 and the emerging “web” industry was in a design frenzy over the Flash application. It was a remarkable time. Designers were taking their work and ideas online and the world began seeing sleek motion graphics with an emotional impact in their message. For the next decade I devoted myself to learning about the web and designing for it. I’ve been fortunate to have been a part of an industry that evolved so quickly over the last 10 years as well as being able to work with a close group of friends which I consider as my family.
A few years back, I started an art blog to rediscover and re-ignite my passion for drawing and painting.
I am currently a concept artist and user interface designer for the games industry. Please view my online resume below for a synopsis of my work experience. A more detailed resume is available via request using the email address below. Thanks again for visiting!
