Zen Emon - Step 01

Started out with a rough silohuette and played around until I was happy with the basic pose of the figure.
  Zen Emon - Step 02

Here I added separation by adding values to block in the lights and darks. A few details were added too.
  Zen Emon - Step 03

Expanded upon Step 2 and continued to work out the values. I also played around with the design.
  Zen Emon - Step 04

Lightened up the values and kept adding details until the basic design works for me. Now it's color time.
  Zen Emon - Step 05

Blocked in the basic colors. I went with a dusty-navy top and a dark brown for the skirt. Red for the blood.
  Zen Emon - Step 06

I hit a road block here and was not sure of what to do next. I made some adjustments to the sleeve I think.

Zen Emon - Step 07

More subtle adjustments made here and there, but not too much of a difference from Step 6.
  Zen Emon - Step 08

Wasn't liking the contrast very much so I bumped it up a bit and decided that I liked it much better this way.
  Zen Emon - Step 09

Continued painting up the face and the fabrics. I think I'll taper the Fu Man Chu and make it moderate.
  Zen Emon - Step 10

Started really zooming in there and layed down a lot of small linework. It's best to watch a little Hulu here.
  Zen Emon - Step 11

Continued to add in facial details and hair while softening the light contrast hitting the face and chest.
  Zen Emon - Step 12

After adding more refinements to the head and upper body, we arrive at the final step. Hope you enjoyed it!
