Kid Spacey battles the fierce and formidable Nemesis robot on the nebulous moon of Planet X. Will he be victorious in destroying this relentless giant? He'll need to use all of his prowess to evade detection. As long as Kid Spacey can get close enough without being seen, his trusty blaster may be able to finally decimate this frightening foe. Then he can finally get out of that tight and stuffy dome suit. This illustration was created w/ a semi-retro, sci-fi feel to it. I wanted to create an atmospheric environment with a character immersed in some type of dramatic situation. It was painted in photoshop with some photo overlays of abstract light effects. I started out with a smaller composition (700px by 900px) to figure out the general direction and color. From this simple block-in, I started playing with a main light source which progressed into lightly modeling the figure and the rock-type formations. The next step was adding in a few details to the face, body and the background to establish a few reference points. Once I was happy with the basic look, I up-sized the image and began the process of painting in the forms and details. I worked a bit here and a bit there...trying to move my way around the entire canvas. This kept things a lot more fluid and prevented me from staying in one spot for too long.
